JENNY HOOSE, DVM DACVECC

Emergency Veterinarian and Criticalist

Dr. Jennifer A. Hoose is a distinguished and board-certified Emergency Veterinarian and Criticalist based in California, bringing over two decades of expertise to the field of veterinary medicine. A key figure at California Veterinary Specialists since 2005, Dr. Hoose has excelled in providing advanced emergency care and managing critically ill patients. Her leadership and dedication to veterinary excellence have been pivotal in the care of countless animals.

In 2020, Dr. Hoose took on the role of Medical Director for the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics, where she continues to oversee medical operations, upholding the highest standards of care and advancing the clinic’s mission of excellence in emergency veterinary services.

Dr. Hoose’s academic journey began at Michigan State University, where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. She further honed her expertise through a rigorous residency in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care at California Veterinary Specialists, culminating in her achievement of Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) in 2019.

Passionate about education, Dr. Hoose has served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences. She has also contributed significantly to veterinary education as a relief surgeon and instructor for the Carrington College Veterinary Technology Program and as a part-time professor for the Cal Poly Pomona Veterinary Technology Program, where she mentors the next generation of veterinary professionals.

Dr. Hoose’s contributions to veterinary medicine are distinguished by her impactful publication in the Journal of Emergency and Critical Care. Her notable work includes a retrospective analysis of clinical outcomes in cats with suspected rattlesnake envenomation in Southern California. Additionally, Dr. Hoose is dedicated to advancing the field through RACE-approved continuing education presentations, further enriching the veterinary community with her expertise.

MELINDA DAYHUFF, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Melinda Dayhuff is an experienced emergency veterinarian at Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic who has dedicated more than two decades of her veterinary career to emergency and critical care medicine. A Southern California native, Dr. Dayhuff knew from an early age that she wanted to become a veterinarian and has been licensed to practice veterinary medicine in California since 1994.

Dr. Dayhuff completed her undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary education at the University of California, Davis. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science with a focus on small ruminant and dairy science, a Master of Science in Avian Science with an emphasis in molecular and cellular genetics, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) on the small animal track.

After graduating from UC Davis in 1994, Dr. Dayhuff returned to Southern California and began her career in general veterinary practice. In 2002, she shifted her professional focus to emergency and critical care medicine. Since then, she has spent more than two decades caring for dogs and cats experiencing urgent, complex, and potentially life-threatening medical conditions.

Dr. Dayhuff joined Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic in 2020, bringing her extensive emergency veterinary experience to our team. She is RECOVER CPR certified, reflecting advanced training in evidence-based veterinary cardiopulmonary resuscitation. She provides emergency and critical care for dogs and cats at our Orange County emergency veterinary hospitals and is committed to helping pets and their families through unexpected illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.

Animals are an important part of Dr. Dayhuff’s life outside of the hospital as well. A longtime participant in canine sports, she has been involved in flyball since 1995 and dog agility since 2006. Today, she continues to compete in agility with her Australian Shepherds.

EDITH JOVEL, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Edith Jovel is a highly skilled and dedicated emergency veterinarian based in Southern California, practicing at the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics since 2019. With a strong foundation in both veterinary medicine and wildlife care, Dr. Jovel brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her role, providing exceptional care for animals in critical conditions.
Dr. Jovel earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine, with a clinical affiliation at Louisiana State University, School of Veterinary Medicine. Her academic journey also includes an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology, Magna Cum Laude, from Los Angeles Pierce College, and a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife, Fish & Conservation Biology from the University of California, Davis.

Throughout her career, Dr. Jovel has accumulated extensive experience across various veterinary roles. She has worked as a Registered Veterinary Technician at multiple veterinary hospitals in the Orange County area, where she honed her skills in triage, wound care, anesthesia monitoring, and client education. Her dedication to veterinary care extends to her volunteer work with VIDA International in Costa Rica, where she participated in spay/neuter clinics and public health education.

Dr. Jovel’s expertise also spans wildlife rehabilitation, having completed a seasonal externship at the California Wildlife Center and volunteered at the International Bird Rescue and Research Center. Her experience with diverse species, including raptors and pelagic birds, adds a unique dimension to her veterinary practice.
Recognized for her academic excellence, Dr. Jovel has received multiple Dean’s List and President’s List awards during her time at Ross University. She has also been an active member of various veterinary organizations, including the Student Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society and the Veterinary Business Management Association.

Dr. Jovel is committed to providing the highest standard of care in emergency veterinary medicine, ensuring that every animal receives the attention and treatment they need during critical moments.

TRENTON MOORE, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Trenton Moore is an emergency veterinarian at Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic with more than a decade of experience in veterinary medicine. After spending the first 10 years of his career in general practice, Dr. Moore chose to shift his professional focus to emergency medicine in 2023, where he developed a particular interest in emergency surgery. He joined the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic team in 2026.

A Southern California native, Dr. Moore earned his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and completed his clinical training at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Dr. Moore’s years in general practice provided him with a broad foundation in small animal medicine before he transitioned to emergency veterinary care. Today, he focuses on evaluating and treating dogs and cats with urgent illnesses, traumatic injuries, and other potentially life-threatening conditions. He particularly enjoys the challenges of emergency surgery and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference for patients when rapid medical or surgical intervention is needed.

Dr. Moore has experienced the importance of emergency veterinary medicine from the perspective of a pet owner as well. His Corgi, Dibs, recently developed a bleeding splenic tumor that required emergency surgery. Dr. Moore performed the splenectomy himself, successfully controlling the internal bleeding, and Dibs recovered from surgery and was soon able to get back to enjoying life and playing again. The experience brought together Dr. Moore’s professional interest in emergency surgery and his personal understanding of what families experience when a beloved pet suddenly becomes critically ill.

Outside of the emergency hospital, Dr. Moore enjoys an active Southern California lifestyle, including off-roading, hiking, and mountain biking. He also enjoys traveling and spending time with his family and his Corgis..

ADAN RIVERA, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Adan Rivera is an experienced emergency veterinarian at Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic with a diverse background in emergency medicine, surgery, and wildlife care. His veterinary career has taken him from Mexico to Southern California and has given him extensive experience caring for animals in both routine and emergency settings.

Dr. Rivera was born in a rural village in Guanajuato, Mexico, and moved to Mexico City at age 14. He pursued his passion for veterinary medicine at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where he earned his degree in Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics in 2002. Following graduation, he practiced as a veterinarian in Mexico for six years.

Dr. Rivera moved to Anaheim, California, in 2008. While completing the requirements necessary to practice veterinary medicine in the United States, he worked for more than five years as a veterinary assistant in emergency and small exotic animal hospitals. This experience provided him with extensive hands-on exposure to emergency cases involving dogs, cats, and small exotic animals.

Dr. Rivera successfully completed the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) certification program and became a licensed veterinarian in the United States in 2014. He has since focused his veterinary career on emergency medicine, developing particular expertise and interest in emergency surgery.

At Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic, Dr. Rivera cares for dogs and cats experiencing urgent illnesses, traumatic injuries, surgical emergencies, and potentially life-threatening medical conditions. An experienced emergency surgeon, he is also an important mentor within our veterinary team and helps train newer veterinarians as they develop their skills in emergency medicine and surgery. Dr. Rivera speaks both English and Spanish, allowing him to communicate directly with Spanish-speaking pet owners during their pets’ emergency veterinary visits.

Dr. Rivera’s commitment to animal care extends beyond the emergency hospital. He has volunteered his medical and surgical skills with the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center and has experience working with wildlife rehabilitation. His background with wildlife and small exotic animals adds another dimension to his extensive veterinary experience.

Dr. Rivera brings decades of veterinary experience, strong surgical skills, and a commitment to teaching to Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic. He is dedicated to providing skilled and compassionate emergency veterinary care to dogs, cats, and their families throughout Orange County.

ANNE UNDERWOOD, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Anne Underwood is a dedicated and skilled emergency veterinarian based in Southern California, currently practicing at the Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics since 2023. With a comprehensive background in veterinary medicine and a commitment to providing exceptional care, Dr. Underwood excels in handling a wide range of emergency cases.

Dr. Underwood earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Western University of Health Sciences in 2022. Her education was marked by a diverse range of clinical rotations, including Emergency and Critical Care, Diagnostic Imaging, General Practice, Internal Medicine, Shelter Medicine, Exotic Animal Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Surgery. This extensive training equipped her with the expertise necessary to manage complex medical situations in a fast-paced emergency environment.

Dr. Underwood’s dedication to veterinary medicine is also demonstrated through her involvement in research and leadership roles. She has contributed to poultry research, managed patient care during her veterinary assistant role, and held leadership positions, such as representing her university at the national level in the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Her efforts in these areas showcase her ability to combine practical veterinary skills with a strong foundation in research and leadership.

Dr. Underwood’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), and the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV). She holds certifications in digital radiography, radiation safety, infection control, RECOVER CPR, and more, highlighting her commitment to maintaining the highest standards of veterinary practice.

Dr. Underwood’s comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and dedication to her patients make her a trusted and capable emergency veterinarian, providing exceptional care to animals in need.

BROOKE WEINSTEIN, DVM

Emergency Veterinarian

Dr. Brooke Weinstein is an emergency veterinarian at Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic who joined our team in 2026 after completing an intensive Emergency and Critical Care Mentorship under the guidance of our Medical Director, Dr. Jennifer Hoose. The mentorship provided advanced training in emergency medicine, critical care, emergency surgery, and the management of critically ill and injured dogs and cats.

Dr. Weinstein earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with honors from Oregon State University Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine after graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Throughout veterinary school, she developed a strong interest in emergency medicine, surgery, shelter medicine, and community outreach.

Her professional experience includes general practice, shelter medicine, urgent care, and international veterinary practice in Australia. She has also provided veterinary care for underserved communities through outreach programs, worked with municipal animal shelters, and volunteered with wildlife rehabilitation organizations caring for marine mammals, bats, and other native wildlife.

In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Weinstein has contributed to veterinary research involving tick-borne diseases in dogs and was recognized for her academic excellence as a member of the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society. She is RECOVER CPR certified in evidence-based veterinary cardiopulmonary resuscitation and is also a Fear Free Certified Professional, reflecting her commitment to providing exceptional emergency care while reducing fear, anxiety, and stress for her patients.

At Orange County Emergency Pet Clinic, Dr. Weinstein enjoys the fast-paced environment of emergency medicine and the opportunity to help pets and their families during unexpected illnesses, injuries, and surgical emergencies. She is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality emergency veterinary care while continuing to grow her skills alongside our experienced emergency and critical care team.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Weinstein enjoys staying active by playing in a local soccer league. Her love of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance on the field mirrors the collaborative approach she brings to emergency veterinary medicine every day.

ELAINE MYERS, MBA, MS, RVT, CVPM

Hospital Administrator

Elaine Myers is a seasoned veterinary professional with over two decades of experience in veterinary practice management, education, and clinical care. Currently, she serves as the Hospital Administrator for Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics, Inc., a position she has held since 2015. Elaine’s expertise in veterinary practice management is bolstered by her advanced education, including an MBA in Organizational Management from Eastern University (2025) and a Master of Science in Animal Science from the University of Missouri (2014) .

Elaine is a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM), a designation that highlights her proficiency in leading veterinary teams and managing the complexities of veterinary hospital operations. She is also a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in California, bringing hands-on clinical experience to her leadership roles. Her commitment to enhancing the veterinary profession is further evidenced by her certification as a Fear Free Certified Veterinary Professional, focusing on reducing fear and stress in veterinary patients.

In addition to her role at Orange County Emergency Pet Clinics, Elaine has contributed to the field of veterinary medicine as an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Missouri’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where she taught Animal Science and Veterinary Technology courses from 2011 to 2014. Her dedication to veterinary education is reflected in her ongoing involvement as an RVT Curriculum Advisor for Platt College-Anaheim since 2016. Elaine’s leadership extends beyond her professional roles. She actively participates in various board and committee services, including previous and current board roles with the Golden State Humane Society, California Registered Veterinary Technician Association (CaRVTA), Hope Community Church of Anaheim, and Garden Grove Chamber of Commerce. Her service in these organizations demonstrates her commitment to both her local community and the broader field of veterinary medicine.

As a published author and respected speaker, Elaine has shared her knowledge through various publications and presentations. Her work has been featured in the NAVTA Journal, and she has presented on multiple topics, including emergency triage, financial management and the impact of COVID-19 on veterinary practices.

Elaine is a recognized leader in the community, having been awarded Congresswoman Michelle Steele’s 2024 Woman of Distinction and the 2022 Veterinary Team Member of the Year by the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association. Her professional affiliations include memberships in several key veterinary organizations, such as the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA), the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA), and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS).

Elaine Myers’ extensive experience, advanced education, and dedication to the veterinary profession make her a valuable asset to the veterinary community, both in her current role and through her ongoing contributions to veterinary practice management and education.
